Self isolation period extended for those with symptoms of the virus or who have tested positive

Coronavirus is most infectious just before and for the first few days after symptoms begin.

The self-isolation period has been extended from 7 days to 10 days for those with coronavirus symptoms or who have tested positive for coronavirus.

If you’ve been in close contact with someone who tested positive you must self-isolate for 14 days

If you or someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms get a free test immediately.

Test and Trace

From today, you’ll be able to download the NHS Covid-19 app which will help you to protect your loved ones in an efficient and simple way.

The app, designed to track where positive coronavirus cases are will help you to understand whether you have been in contact with someone who has coronavirus.

It will be mandatory for the hospitality, leisure and tourism sector to ask visitors to ‘check-in’ via the app, to help them track any possible spreads more efficiently.

The app is available for download on your relevant app store on your mobile phone.

Coronavirus latest: Testing now open to everyone aged over 5 years with symptoms and loss of taste or smell added to official Covid-19 signs

The main symptoms of coronavirus have been updated:

High temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

New, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. Check the NHS website for what to do if you show symptoms.
